Beginning Continuing and Advanced Languages
Beginning courses are for students with minimal prior experience in the language. Continuing courses are suitable for students with a basic working knowledge of everyday usage of the language.
Building on prior language learning, such as completion of language studies in high school. Advanced courses are for students who are background speakers with significant prior use of the language.
Canberra Academy of Languages
The Canberra Academy of Languages delivers courses in languages for senior secondary students who wish to study languages that are not available in their day schools or through other registered providers.
Students receive unit credits towards the ACT Senior Secondary Certificate and if their course scores in languages are among their best four, these contribute towards their ATAR.
Students may be school-sponsored or family-sponsored for the cost of enrolment. We suggest that students who are doing their language course with CAL as part of their core study program may be sponsored by their college.
And that those doing course with CAL in addition to a full study program with their college may be family-sponsored.
The study of French develops students’ ability to understand and use a language that is widely learned internationally, and which is an official language of many world organizations and international events. The ability to use and understand French also provides students with a direct means.
This French intermediate course is delivered in 8 terms covering a whole new textbook. This is not an intensive course but it will require some study and doing weekly homework.
This course aims to develop basic skills in understanding and communicating in French by introducing a range of basic vocabulary, grammar and sentence patterns. A supportive and interactive approach is used to encourage the development of conversational skills and a gradual increase in the active.
