Build on your basic communication skills and add further vocabulary and grammar. You will learn how to give and request extended personal and family details, describe people and objects and use the language in a wider range of daily situations you may encounter when travelling (request information, book train tickets, ask for directions, etc.). In this course you will also develop your cultural awareness of the areas where the language is spoken.
Choose this course if you want to:
Communicate in routine tasks requiring a direct exchange of information in familiar and common situations.
Recognise vocabulary and some expressions in everyday materials, simple messages and announcements.
Describe in simple terms aspects of your life, hobbies and other areas of personal interest.
Have opportunities to practise your skills with other speakers of the language
Who is this course for?
This course is recommended for learners who have a very basic knowledge of the language or have completed a Beginner course at A1 level (for example, Intermediate 2, Standard Grade or Foundation Tier GCSE).
In this course, you will be working towards level A2 of the Common European Framework of Languages.
Qualifications/credits
Course assessment is optional but on successful completion you will obtain 10 credits at Level 1 (SCQF 7).
Mode of study
Language classes are interactive and collaborative, with plenty of exposure to the language and many opportunities to practise and learn with your peers. 
You will also have access to Moodle, the University’s virtual learning environment, where you will find additional activities for you to practise what you have learnt in class and to extend your knowledge.
Prospects
At this elementary level you will be able participate in basic interactions and conversations with speakers of the language in very familiar topics.
Or you can progress to the next step, Improvers A2+, to continue to develop your skills in the language
