JWSD (short for Joyce Willett School of Dance) is a pair of family owned dance studios that have been led and guided by 3 generations of women in our family, passed from the hands of mother to daughter.
Joyce Willett purchased her dance studio from her employer as a dance instructor in Windsor Park from Shirley McPhail, where her two daughters also took lessons, as a young mother of four with a passion for dance and children's education.
She spread Joyce Willett School of Dance across Austin featuring three different locations when the city was smaller and there was much less competition than there is today.
Children are taught advanced through team level skills and must be able to perform a back handspring on their own before enrolling in this class. Instructors closely monitor student progress and depending on student’s ability and interest, may be considered for Team Placement.
