JWSD (short for Joyce Willett School of Dance) is a pair of family owned dance studios that have been led and guided by 3 generations of women in our family, passed from the hands of mother to daughter.
Joyce Willett purchased her dance studio from her employer as a dance instructor in Windsor Park from Shirley McPhail, where her two daughters also took lessons, as a young mother of four with a passion for dance and children's education.
She spread Joyce Willett School of Dance across Austin featuring three different locations when the city was smaller and there was much less competition than there is today.
Gymnastics classes are focused on developing standard tumbling skills as well as modified tumbling skills for dancers. There is a focus on stretching, gross motor-skill development, and conditioning.
Ballet, Tap, and Jazz is a technique focused pre-intermediate dance class for young dancers who are serious about learning to express themselves through dance.
Ballet and Tumble classes are non-performing classes that focus on early motor skill development and bringing the joy of dance to young children.
Hip Hop classes are fun and free-form, but with the technical base that makes a strong dancer. The class will focus on rhythm, body language, and using their full physicality.
