This course prepares workplace Health and Safety representatives to be able to explain and demonstrate the overall role and functions of a Health and Safety Representative in a New Zealand workplace.

Includes the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, employer and employee responsibilities under the Act and specific accountability of the role.

 

About this course

This course prepares workplace Health and Safety Representatives to be able to explain their overall role and functions in a New Zealand workplace. The course is NZQA-approved, and all credits will be registered with NZQA.

 

On completion of this courses the learner will achieve:

  • Unit Standard 29315 – Describe the role and functions of the HSR in a New Zealand workplace. The role and functions of the HSR under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and its Regulations
  • The role of an HSR as an advocate for workers
  • The obligations of a PCBU and WorkSafe New Zealand towards the HSR
  • The risk management process and the importance of communicating with workers and management
  • The powers and obligations that an HSR has in terms of issuing a Provisional Improvement
  • Notice (PIN) and how and when to direct a worker to cease unsafe work
