Prepare to obtain the Technical Standard and Safety Authority (TSSA) Oil Equipment Technician OBT3 and OBT2 and Gas Equipment Technician G3 and G2 certifications.
The first stage, of a general nature, allows the student to become familiar with residential heating systems. The second and third stages, more specialized, focus on heating and refrigeration.
Throughout the program, students spend approximately half of their training in the workshop performing practical work. Basic and applied courses in electricity, professional communication, science and calculus are also offered.
The program covers the fuel oil (heating oil) modules required to obtain the OBT3 and OBT2 Fuel Oil Equipment Technician Certificate and the natural gas and propane modules required to obtain the Technical Standard and Safety Authority (TSSA) G3 and G2 Gas Equipment Technician Certificate.
The certificates of competency (G2 and OBT2) are recognized by the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
The graduate may choose to complete an apprenticeship in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration with a recognized employer-contractor who will qualify him/her to work on air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Some courses in the program are offered at the Minto Trades Centre - Alphonse-Desjardins campus, in Orléans.
Although this program is considered a two-year program, please note that it is offered in less than one year, over a period of 45 consecutive weeks (3 stages). The first stage begins in the fall, followed by the second stage in the winter and the third stage in the summer.

TCRC graduates who want to obtain their Quebec competency cards must apply either online or in person from Emploi Québec.A graduate who obtains their Ontario competency card (TSSA card) automatically obtains their equivalent Quebec card without having to take an exam.
If, however, they do not obtain an Ontario competency card, they must apply for a Quebec apprenticeship booklet.
