Heirloom Sewing has long been associated with high quality cotton, silk or linen fabrics, French or English laces, Swiss embroidered lace, fine hand embroidery or lovely machine embroidery. All of this specialty area of sewing allows for creativity on the part of the seamstress. Delicate Stitches by Sylvia prides itself in continuing to stock some of the highest quality heirloom sewing fabrics.
There are fine Swiss batiste fabrics in various weights as well as Japanese Lawn and Swiss broadcloth. But the heirloom sewer does not have to only use batiste fabrics, you might think about choosing Irish linen for your project. The Irish linen will work well with the French and English laces for achieving the lovely heirloom sewn by machine look.
You will find any of these fabrics stocked in white, ecru as well as some soft pastel shades. The heirloom fabrics vary in width. Our heirloom fabric stock comes from Spechler-Vogel fabrics, Bear Threads, LTD, Ulster Linen and Capitol Imports.
About Us
Owner, Sylvia Fooshee is a former Home Economics teacher and mother of 3 grown children. I started sewing and hand embroidery as a child, which later grew into a fun hobby and finally into an enjoyable business. Though much of my business deals with smocking and heirloom supplies, I am always eager to teach this lovely needle art to any enthusiastic student.
My business began in 1992 with custom heirloom sewing & developed into teaching english smocking & heirloom sewing. The opportunity came in 1995 to handle supplies out of my home & start a budding mail order business for smocking & heirloom sewing and hand embroidery supplies. Though most of my business is mail order, I do invite you to stop by and shop if you are in the Tulsa area at our Tulsa embroidery shop. Please call ahead for an appointment & directions.
I try to have many of "the basics" for those who are just starting out, as well as some special & hard to find items for the more accomplished artisan. It is my hope that this website will be a means of better serving those of you who have a hard time finding supplies in the areas where you live. I always welcome suggestions on things you would desire I carry.
The opportunity is also here for classes in a variety of areas. I offer classes for the beginner through advanced levels in smocking, fine hand embroidery & heirloom sewing. Please feel free to inquire based on your needs & interests whether it is on an individual level or for a small group. Teaching is available here in my Tulsa embroidery shop/studio or in your area for a guild or sewing club.
