High Risk Confined Space Entry

Personnel involved in planning, supervising and/or execution of work resulting in entry to high risk confined spaces. It is advisable to undertake a medical examination prior to this training. The practical aspects of this course require the candidate to have a good level of fitness.

The Objectives Of The Course Are Enable Delegates To:

• Prepare to work safely in confined spaces of a high-risk nature.
• Prepare and use self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.
• Enter and exit confined spaces of high risk safely.
• Form a safe system of work for the operation and follow it.
• Demonstrate an understanding of responsibilities under relevant legislation.
• Identify hazards and associated risks involved when entering confined spaces.
• Implement control measures such as ventilation and gas detection to eliminate potential risks.
• Select, inspect and use appropriate gas detection equipment and log the results of the gas detector readings and appropriate actions to take.
• Understand the significance of and work to entry permits and safe systems of work.
• Implement emergency procedures.
• Inspect, clean and use escape sets in accordance with manufacturers’ guidance.
• Understand the duties of the standby man.

Training Method

Highly participative with practical demonstrations highlighted by use of PowerPoint and Videos along with group and individual exercises.

Certification

Certificate of attendance valid for 3 years followed by 2 day refresher every 3 years thereafter. SQA Unit Award available if required.
