The television show Soul Train and the 1980s films Breakin’, Beat Streat, and Wild Style, showcased dance crews and hip hop dance styles in their early stages, giving hip-hop mainstream exposure.
The dance industry responded with a commercial, studio-based version of hip-hop—sometimes called “new style”—and a hip-hop influenced style of jazz dance called “jazz-funk”.
Classically trained dancers developed these studio styles in order to create choreography from the hip-hop dances that were performed on the street. Because of this development, hip-hop dance is practiced in both dance studios and outdoor spaces. DanceWorks Indy is proud to offer both street and studio styles of Hip Hop dance!

Come ready to dance & sweat! Warm up, learn a few hip hop progressions & right in to the choreography. This class is geared towards picking up movement & full out performance by the end of the session.
This is a beginner level class recommended for students 5-6 years old. Dancers will learn across the floor hip hop steps to aid in coordination and knowledge of time and space as well as technical combinations to a variety of songs.
Hip Hop dance classes are offered by Dance Center of Florida for adults. Dance Center of Florida’s mission is to bring a professional and supportive dance center to Miami offering diverse dance training for both children and adults.
