What separates hip hop dance from other forms of dance is that it is often freestyle in nature. Here, students are schooled in the history of the hip hop culture, and given a solid foundation in all aspects.
Deborah Mason is the founder and executive director of the Deborah Mason Performing Arts Center (DMPAC), formerly the Deborah Mason School of Dance (DMSD). A lifelong Cambridge, MA resident and community activist, Deborah founded DMSD in 1975.
Hip Hop is a grounded, street style form of dance usually performed to hip hop music, or music which emphasizes clear rhythms, beats and/or lyrics.
Students ages 7 and up are invited to join our fun, high-energy Hip-Hop class. Â Age appropriate movement and music are used in this fast-paced class. Â With its roots in street jazz, pop and lock, commercial, and pedestrian styles, Hip Hop is a constantly evolving form of dance.
This class focuses on various hip-hop techniques including popping, locking, and house elements. Students have opportunities to work on their own freestyle abilities. This class builds strength, stamina, and style through contemporary hip-hop movement.
Dancers interested in being a part of the CDA Crew must also be taking a CDA hip hop class.
Hip Hop Dance Class is offered by Uptown Dance Center. Our mission at Uptown is to provide students of all levels with more than just dance classes, but a unique experience in which the student can grow both mentally and physically as a dancer.
