Course Details

This course will familiarize the learner with laws and policies surrounding Equal Employment Opportunity. The learner will explore the key federal laws which prohibit workplace discrimination and harassment. After completing this program, the learner will be able to:

  • Recognize instances of discrimination and harassment, particularly sexual harassing behaviors.
  • Understand and apply key federal laws such as ADA, FLSA, FMLA, and HIPAA.
  • Address requirements, policies, and the results of non-compliance.
 
Outcomes:
  • T1. Laws and Policies: This topic will describe Equal Employment Opportunity and the key federal laws which prohibit workplace discrimination and harassment.
  • T2. Discrimination and Harassment: This topic will define discrimination and discuss discriminatory behavior, and will provide examples of harassment, hostile environments, and more.
  • T3. Sexual Harassment: This topic will describe sexual harassment as a form of discrimination and who may be involved.
  • T4. Sexual Harassing Behaviors: This topic will detail two forms of sexual harassment, Quid Pro Quo and Hostile Work Environment, and the similarities and differences between them, as well as details about physical, verbal, non-verbal, and written harassment.
  • T5. ADA: This topic will provide an overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the disabilities it addresses, its requirements, policies, and the results of non-compliance.
  • T6. Understanding ADA: This topic will provide an understanding of the Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It will discuss coverage, enforcement, and requirements covered under the Act.
  • T7. FLSA: This topic will provide an overview of the Fair labor Standards Act and will detail the enterprises it covers, minimum wage and overtime standards, and child labor and recordkeeping information.
  • T8. FMLA: This topic will provide an overview of the Family Medical Leave Act and its requirements, eligible employees, rights and responsibilities, and more.
  • T9. HIPAA: This topic will provide an overview of the Health Insurance Portability Act, which was enacted to protect the privacy of individualsÆ health information.
