Course Details

CITSOL language proficiency courses for professional purposes are ideal for people who need to develop second language skills to use in both everyday and work-related contexts.

For each language, there are three proficiency levels: 1 (Beginner), 2 (Intermediate), and 3 (Advanced). The course is specifically customised for the individual learner taking into consideration the learner’s past language and other learning experiences.

The aim of the course is for students to:

  • Develop skills and knowledge of language required for each proficiency level;
  • Learn and demonstrate appropriate sociocultural knowledge and sensitivity; and,
  • Develop language learning strategies and intercultural communication capacity to use beyond the formal learning.

The course covers four language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. However, emphasis may be given to certain skills to suit the needs of the learner.

The course integrates sociolinguistic and sociocultural knowledge to enable the learner to communicate in the target language correctly and appropriately in a given context.

The course incorporates a variety of topics and contexts, ranging from everyday casual conversation to formal professional contexts, to support learning for wider purposes.
