Increasingly, our interior living and working spaces are being developed for a more sophisticated society. Interior designers are trained to create highly functional, comfortable, safe, and aesthetically-pleasing environments inside commercial and residential buildings.

What You Will Learn
Our curriculum is designed to prepare you for a variety of job opportunities in the fields of both residential and non-residential interior design.
The focus of the studies is technical knowledge, professional practices, and aesthetic principles. Curriculum content includes residential, commercial, and institutional interior design, architectural drafting, computer-aided design, and universal design.
Also included are basic design, history of interiors and furnishings, color theory, products, business practices, graphic presentations, and general education courses.
Coursework also includes the principles of sustainable and green design. Upon completion of the interior design program, you will:
have acquired the skills and knowledge to competently design both residential and commercial interior spaces using the latest in products, finishes, textiles, and furnishings in a way that will meet client needs and budget
be able to produce, by hand and computer-aided design, pictorial presentations of design schemes using industry accepted techniques in perspective drawing and color rendering, and basic model building skills
have developed an understanding of building and accessibility codes and the basic technical aspects of design and construction
have demonstrated the ability to produce construction working drawings that are both code compliant and up to excepted industry standards
have been exposed to interior design business practices, including business ethics, and will be prepared for employment interviews and the professional work environment
Graduates qualify for a variety of jobs dealing with interiors, including residential and commercial interior design, set design, showroom design, and sales positions for furniture, textiles, and accessories.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in interior design prepares students to analyze interior design problems, assess existing conditions, research and synthesize solutions, visually and verbally present solutions
As a student in the Interior Design Program, you’ll receive one-on-one attention from instructors who are highly qualified working industry professionals.
The BS Interior Design / MS Interior Architecture program offers a first-professional degree in interior design and a post-professional graduate degree for students looking to accelerate their career and/or specialize in an area of interior design.
The goal of professional practice remains at the center of our program. Studying interior design through interdisciplinary and cross-cultural consultation with a diverse faculty helps you to make informed choices for your future.
To be awarded a minor, at least 12 units of coursework must be completely distinct and separate from the coursework in the major, and coursework for the minor must include a minimum of 6 upper-division units (University Policy S16-4).
