Tap begins at the start in our debut dance class. From age three upwards, pupils are given an initiation in rhythm and stepping in time, so that once they have graduated to the Pre Primary class they will be able to master the steps necessary for their first examination.

During tap class, dancers beat out different rhythms with their tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel which give the distinctive sound. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on stage in musicals.
South Manchester Dance School established over 70 years ago, the school was brought to its current address over 30 years ago.
Our school is affiliated with both the Royal Academy of Dance and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance and our teachers are also qualified with both.

Adult Daytime Tap classes are offered by DM Studios. We are really keen to help our adult dancers get fit, make new friends and have loads of fun doing the one thing we all enjoy, dance!
