Your teacher for this class, Dave Alvarez, has decades of experience in woodworking and fine cabinetry. Join him and other students at Freeside, and make a classic, useful tote. It will serve to tote tools, gardening supplies, pretty much anything. It will also serve well as an accent, whether holding magazines, flowers, or knitting supplies.
Established in 2009, Freeside Atlanta is a 501(c)3 non-profit makerspace built entirely by volunteers. As a community, we have built our space with tools and equipment for electronics, 3D printing, woodworking, metalworking, art, design, classes, and events.
Everything you see in our space was donated or built by Freesiders. Our members engage in amazing projects and love to share their knowledge. Also, you don't have to be a member to come to our events or take a class!
Starting with rough hewn boards, students move through all the main machines in the shop. We cover jointing, planing and spend a good amount of time on the table saw.
The Hand Tools training is a Level 1 Woodworking training that familiarizes users with a variety of saws, hammers, drills, and drivers! After this training, users are able to use any of the tools on the tool wall displays in the Hatchery Makerspace and the Hatchery Prototyping Studio.
The Carpentry Diploma program at Saint Paul College provides hands-on training and the theoretical skills needed to succeed. Students learn to use basic tools such as saws and pneumatic nail guns, starting with Summer Term.
This class is designed to be the core introductory class that covers good studio practices while learning how to safely use all of the equipment and tools in the main woodworking studio. It will also be the primary prerequisite class for most of the more advanced woodworking classes.
In this class we will learn the in’s & out’s of woodcut printmaking! We will draw, carve, and print our own woodcut designs.
