Introduction To Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is the industry standard digital imaging tool. Whether you are new to Adobe Photoshop or just needing a refresher, this introductory course will guide you through its key functions and uses such as importing and exporting images, working with layers, colour and paint features.

Please be aware that all of our digital courses that employ the use of computers and Adobe software are delivered on Apple Mac computers.

Pre-requisites for Enrolment

No previous knowledge of the subject is required.

Material you will need to bring for the first session:

• USB / Memory stick or external HD.

Content of Course

Each session, students will be introduced to various aspects in relation using Adobe Photoshop. The sessions will explore a combination of practical exercises and demonstrations, which include:

• Getting started - understanding what the software is used for.
• Navigating - Exploring Photoshop desktop, getting images into Photoshop, moving around an image, tips for using Photoshop.
• Image Manipulation; cropping, removing imperfections, adjusting contrast, correcting colours, and sharpening images.
• Understanding concepts: colour modes, image size, resolution, and print size.
• Explore working with Layers.
• Explore working with paint and brushes.
• Explore working with and adding type.
• Scanning, exporting and printing.

Teaching Method(s)

This course will be based and delivered in specialist digital learning space with Mac computers and the relevant software and licences.

Each week, students’ progress will be monitored and supported by the tutor who will suggest follow up reading, research and practice to undertake each week to support their studies.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

• Demonstrate a knowledge for the principles of the Adobe Photoshop software package.

• Demonstrate an ability to use the key features of the Adobe Photoshop software.

• Demonstrate an ability to apply the skills learnt to a project.
