Introduction to Fashion and Textiles is an evening class taught once a week at Edinburgh College’s Granton campus. The course is designed for those interested in; fashion and textiles, starting a new hobby or pursuing a new career.
You will need little to no experience in fashion and textile design as this course will start with the very basics. During this course, you will develop your artistic abilities and learn the techniques needed to construct basic garments and accessories.
You will work in Edinburgh College school of art’s fashion and textile studio where you will receive training in sewing machines, garment construction, fabric dyeing, embroidery and embellishments.
You will also learn pattern cutting which can lead to further design studies or employment in the fashion and textiles sector. This course will provide you with a portfolio that you can use in UCAS and further study applications to study an art and design course at a university level.

Edinburgh College was formed on 1 October 2012 as part of the merger of Edinburgh's Jewel and Esk, Telford, and Stevenson colleges. The college has four campuses, all of which were previously the campuses of the constituents of the merger:
On 17 April 2012, Edinburgh's Jewel and Esk, Telford, and Stevenson colleges collectively submitted to the Scottish Government a business case for their merger into a single "Edinburgh" college.
The merger was approved by the Scottish Ministers, and came into force on 1 October 2012. Edinburgh College values it’s rich history, especially those of the many legacy colleges that have come together over the years to better serve the learners of the Edinburgh and Lothian’s region.
A project is currently underway to collate the history of Edinburgh College and its legacy institutions and to create an archive of material to tell its story. Lots of interesting items have already been uncovered including old prospectuses, student newsletters, photographs and a log book from Ramsay Technical Institute dated 1923.
Patchwork & Quilting classes are offered by New Forest Fabrics for all skill level. We have 6 sewing machines for hire. If you wish to reserve one, please confirm when booking. The charge is £5 per class. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you prefer.
This is an opportunity to for absolute beginners and those who lack confidence with a sewing machine to learn basic skills. Basic skills that can be used in most sewing projects.
This beautiful sewing pattern has proved incredibly popular with the sewing community and we know you will love making and wearing your own version. We’re teaching this course in October, just as the weather will start to cool down, so you can style your new coat throughout Winter!
Wet felting creates a background of wool. Dry Felting is the craft of using barbed needles to matt wool into pictures and creative shapes. Embellishing with stitch, making felted vessels and beads can all be covered in this whole day of colour and creation.
The course consists of 5 units, each of which takes you through all the great functions step by step, building your knowledge of the software and guiding you through every stage, building your confidence to try new things.
