We are Big River Bakery based in Shieldfield – Newcastle and we believe we can change the world one loaf at a time but need your help.We are a commercial bakery - shop - cafe and training space- but we do so much more.
We work in the wider community with local businesses, community and charities to deliver our social value into the community. All projects are currently funded by ourselves and through the generosity of our customers.

We run a baking themed employability programme for local people furthest from the job market and also provide employment for people with learning disabilities – such as autism. The funding for this has now ended but we hope that our crowdfunding efforts will help support this during 2023.
The Assembly Bakery put on a fantastic bread making course. Full of loads of interesting info and hints/tips that we can use straight away at home.
Our cookery courses in the East Midlands include a short demonstration followed by "hands-on" cooking with tutoring to your own specific requirements. Recipes and ingredients are all provided.
Taught by the founder, Rebecca Bishop, come and learn the fundamentals of sourdough bread – mixing, shaping, baking and recreating it time and time again at home.
Our unique Mindful Baking Days are a practical and fun way of learning to apply Mindfulness to all aspects of our lives. We pay careful, moment by moment attention to the process and the ingredients as we learn to produce top quality artisan bread.
You will each make your own focaccia from scratch then using our ready-made dough, shape and bake your doughnuts before you coat them in a deliciously sweet and warming cinnamon sugar coating.
