Japanese is spoken by 130 million people. This makes it the ninth most spoken language by native speakers. Linguists debate over the classification of the Japanese language, and one general theory asserts that Japanese is an isolated language and thus a language family of its own, known as Japonic languages.

Another major theory includes Japanese as part of a hypothetical Altaic language family which spans most of Central Asia and would also include Turkic, Mongolic, Tungusic, and Korean languages. Neither of these theories has yet been generally accepted.

Knowing the local language is essential for effective communication. By learning Japanese, students can interact confidently with locals, which will make daily activities, such as shopping, using public transportation, and asking for directions, much easier

Cultural Understanding:

Language and culture are closely intertwined. Learning Japanese will expose students to the country’s customs, traditions, and social norms. This cultural awareness can help them adapt to the new environment more smoothly and avoid misunderstandings.

Improved Job Prospects:

Speaking Japanese can significantly increase the job opportunities for students in the host country. Many local companies prefer employees who can communicate in Japanese, even if the job itself doesn’t require it. This gives language learners an advantage in the job market.

When students can converse in Japanese, they are more likely to be accepted by the local community. It helps in forming friendships, establishing connections, and being involved in social activities, all of which contribute to a sense of belonging.

Access to Education:

If the students are migrating for educational purposes, knowing Japanese is crucial for their academic success. Most universities and schools in Japan use Japanese as the medium of instruction. Proficiency in the language enables students to follow lectures, understand course materials, and interact with peers and professors effectively.

Independence and Confidence:

Mastering a new language instills a sense of independence and self-confidence in students. As they become more proficient in Japanese, they will feel empowered to navigate the country on their own, handle various situations, and adapt to new challenges.
