Students will learn techniques of improvisation and rhythm. Classes are designed to provide a solid foundation in the styles of dance used in theatre, musical theatre, Broadway, entertainment and as a basis for more complex styles such as lyrical and contemporary.
Jazz incorporates a variety of elements that empower one to overcome gravity and break loose – it is emotional, lively, earthbound and funky.
Jazz is characterized by the use of improvisation, individuality and is influenced by rhythms and various dance techniques. It is a constantly evolving form of popular and artistic dance movement danced to up-tempo music.

Senior dancers regularly take part in international conventions and other opportunities to expose them to artists from across the globe.
Guest artists work with Academy students from around North America bringing with them their expertise in Broadway, film and television.
Academy jazz dancers also have the opportunity to take part in local performances, competitions and events.
Graduates have gone on to perform with Cirque du Soleil, Bad Boys of Dance, various cruise lines, Broadway, music videos and entertainment companies.

The Richmond Academy is a member of the BC Dance Educator’s Association, Richmond Chamber of Commerce, West Coast Tap Dance Collective, BC Alliance for Arts and Culture, Richmond Arts Council, Canadian Dance Assembly, BC Artist Registry, Candance.org and has teachers who have obtained Registered Teacher Status with various international organizations including the Royal Academy of Dance.
Jazz classes are offered by Clark Dance Production. Our recreational programming classes are all taught by experienced, adult instructors with extensive training and education in the field of dance instruction! We take pride in providing quality dance classes for all levels!
ADAPT students are able enjoy quality technical training, supporting good competitive values along with enhancing stronger performance abilities.
The class has a way of bringing children out of their shell. They make friends with people just like them; it gives them confidence that is hard to find anywhere else.
Dancers will learn terminology and various forms of movement including turns, jumps, splits, etc. Jazz classes mix the element of energy with the challenge of a variety of movements. Classes run all dance year for 45 minutes a week, with a year-end recital routine.
Jazz is a high-energy class with lots of power and style in each movement, focusing on the proper techniques of the steps. Turns, jumps and kicks are some of the fun things found inside a jazz class. With the upbeat music and fun atmosphere, jazz is a great choice!
