Jazz dance is a combination of a variety of styles including ballet, modern dance, social and street dance, folk dance, and acrobatics and uses dance forms of different nations, most influentially, Africa.

This fusion is limitless to the creativity of the choreographer, although having two essential characteristics polycentricism (isolation of the body, creating several centres of movement) and polyrhythm (moving simultaneously to many different rhythms). Most common in dance today, and taught at TJS, is commercial jazz (a contemporary fusion of street jazz and commercial hip hop), providing students the opportunity to increase their fitness levels, and dance technique.
Open to all ages and abilities, our jazz classes give students insight into what is expected in the commercial dance industry, while giving them the chance to perform in solos, troupes and competition groups.
