Jazz Tech is a wonderful compliment to jazz with an emphasis on flexibility exercises, contemporary Jazz styles and, of course, technique. ISTD exams are optional for dancers registered in Jazz Tech at Allegro; exams take place approximately every two years.
ISTD is an internationally recognized Dance examining organization that gives dancers the opportunity to progress through a Jazz syllabus starting at a young age all the way to a professional teaching qualification!
Established in 2001, Allegro Performing Arts Centre has developed one of the finest and most diverse dance programs offered in Victoria, BC. Our experienced and qualified faculty offers dance training for children and adults of all ages and abilities, beginners to pre-professionals. We provide a positive, supportive and professional environment in which students learn about dance as well as self-discipline.
Historically, Jazz is rooted in the traditions of African dance and music. Jazz dance can be cool, funky and smooth. It stresses rhythm and coordination. The classes are energetic, up tempo and an excellent body conditioner.
Students will learn body isolations, progressions across the floor, and develop their rhythmic accuracy and style. Dancers will also apply technical skills and jazz dance elements in choreographed combinations.
Classes are available for all levels and dancers will be placed at the correct level of ability. Catherine developed the syllabus for jazz and method of teaching herself!
Starting at the age of four, our jazz program includes upbeat and current music. Our jazz students thrive in different genres of dance, and have the opportunity to showcase their sassy side! Our jazz program is complimented by the flex and progressions classes
This beginner program allows students to take the 2 most popular forms of dance in one class. The jazz/hip hop class teaches fundamental jazz steps and combines the elements of hip hop moves and contemporary music.
