Each week students get the opportunity to perform to their peers and tutors in performance classes centred around each performer's development and improvement. Students get the opportunity to provide feedback and develop their listening skills at the same time.
Established in 2006, Sheffield Music Academy provides specialist training for 144 musicians aged 6-18 who show outstanding ability and potential.
The Academy’s drive is to inspire excellence so that students can develop their talent, grow in confidence, achieve fulfilment through performance, and in turn make positive contributions to the musical activities of their schools and communities.
As one of only 15 Centres for Advanced Training in the UK we are funded by the Department for Education's Music & Dance Scheme which offers means-tested bursaries to families. We're also supported by smaller trusts, donors and sponsors to increase bursary numbers and offer instruments for tuition.
Places are open to all, with a primary focus on dedication to music at auditions which take place in March each year. Check out our FAQ page for more information on what we offer, our application process and tuition fees.

Our keyboard lessons help students develop a clear understanding of melodic and rhythmic notation by putting theory into practice. Further, beginners will explore playing scales, using articulation, phrasing and dynamics as an expressive tool.

Keyboard is great instruments to learn from an early age but it’s never too late to make a start. We teach all ages, all levels and all styles.
Pupils may start on electric keyboard from year 2. It may be more appropriate for lessons to be taken as a pair or individually but if resources allow, small group lessons are possible.
