Course Details

Law is both a fascinating and challenging subject. It affects every aspect of our daily lives. It is an ideal subject for someone with a logical mind, who likes research and attention to detail.

What Will I Learn?

At AS you will learn about the legal system of England and Wales. You will cover the structures and processes and alternatives to the courts, look at sources of funding and the impact of morality and human rights.

You will learn about the legal personnel – judges, barristers and solicitors. In addition, you will study the sources of law, judicial precedent, statutory interpretation and E.U, Human Rights and law reform bodies. You will also study the civil law of Tort, including negligence and occupier’s liability.

A2 covers the study Human Rights, considering freedom of the person and covers topics such as police powers and public order. You will also study the components of criminal law, covering aspects of homicide, non-fatal offences, sentencing and defences.

Entry Requirements

You will require 5 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including a B Grade in English/Welsh Language. You do not need to have studied Law at GCSE.

You will be invited to attend an interview, and will undertake an assessment in literacy and numeracy, to establish any support required.

Assessment

You will be assessed by 100% examination.

Career Progression

On successful completion of this course many learners apply to and are offered places at university or enter employment in police, probation service, banking etc.

This subject is part of the full time A level Programme. To apply for this subject you need to apply for the A Level or Combined Programme

A Level Programme - You will need to choose 3 or 4 AS Levels to study the A Level Programme

Combined Programme - You will need to choose 1 or 2 AS Levels combined with a vocational option. Vocational options include: Applied Science, IT, Business, Criminology, Law, Sports and Exercise Sciences, or Health and Social Care.
