Outline
This course comprises units on various Counselling approaches e.g., person-centred, cognitive and psychoanalytical. The course will also focus on ethical considerations such as confidentiality and empowering the individual. Students will also explore the importance of effective communication and appropriate behaviours.
Progression
Following successful completion of the course, students will have the opportunity to progress on to an appropriate Level 3 Access course which will prepare them for a related university course, for example,inpsychology, counselling and /or psychotherapy.
Assessment
Assessment will take place in the form of coursework e.g., essays/role play/case studies
Entry Requirements
In order to progress on to the Access course, students should have GCSEs in maths and English or equivalent. Applicants who do not have these qualifications will have the opportunity to study for these alongside the counselling course.

This course is the first step on our counselling training programme. It is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge, skills and competencies to use counselling skills ethically and safely in a variety of contexts and roles.
When faced with a fellow colleague who is in need of support it is often of great value to have some effective counselling skills. Sometimes employees need help because they are under stress, have suffered a bereavement or are experiencing personal or work related problems.
This course follows on from the introduction course and will help you understand how counselling can help with relationships and communication. If you have already completed the introduction course, this course is the natural next step and will lead you towards accredited courses in counselling.
