Modern and Lyrical Dance defies a single permanent definition. This is largely due to its ability to adapt, develop and evolve with the ever changing trends in dance. It is a fusion of multiple dance styles including ballet, jazz, and even contains elements of hip hop.
The children’s program utilizes imagery and props to encourage students to move creatively while enhancing their self confidence and musicality. As students mature, this dance style challenges the dancers to use motion and movement to interpret music and express emotion, making a strong technical background essential.
The Dance Academy is thrilled to be embarking on our thirteeth season of dance in St. John’s. The Dance Academy was established in 2009 with the vision of providing quality dance instruction where students can learn the art of dance while enhancing social skills and self esteem.
We strive to provide every child with movement experiences which are meaningful and enjoyable, while enhancing motor skill development, social skills and an overall focus on an active, healthy lifestyle.
These are lyrical jazz technique classes. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of two ballet classes as well as competitive or pre-professional jazz. Placement will be determined by the teacher and students will be notified when they are ready to participate in this class.
Lyrical classes are offered by The Dance Theatre Performing Arts. Stylized dance that incorporates the grace and flowing lines of ballet with the emotional and dynamic movements of jazz
Lyrical dance most often combines jazz and ballet. It focuses on strength, flexibility, lines and emotion to music, or especially the lyrics. Very technique based, lyrical requires both a strong ballet and jazz technique. Not usually recommended for beginners or students under the age of 10.
The beauty of ballet and the strength of jazz. This class develops control and balance through emotion and interpretation of music. It is story-telling through expression and dance.
Children will begin to learn jazz and lyrical technique in this exciting sessional class!
