Lyrical is a continuous, gentle and flowing dance form that blends technical movements smoothly from one step to the next.

The Richmond Academy is a member of the BC Dance Educator’s Association, Richmond Chamber of Commerce, West Coast Tap Dance Collective, BC Alliance for Arts and Culture, Richmond Arts Council, Canadian Dance Assembly, BC Artist Registry, Candance.org and has teachers who have obtained Registered Teacher Status with various international organizations including the Royal Academy of Dance.
Lyrical dance is best described as a “fusion” style, incorporating aspects of both ballet and jazz technique. The music, and how it makes the dancers feel, influences how they move.
For the student who wants to work on their technique and / or learn different dance styles. There is a presentation on the last day to show case what has ben learned. This is an excellent way to improve technique and focus on developing important skills that are necessary in todays performing world...
A combination of jazz, ballet, and emotion, lyrical dancers will focus on portraying emotion from a song while using proper dance technique and control.
A good lyrical dancer would attempt to create new aesthetic impressions of the music. This dance form is considered to be a very passionate and emotional dance style that portrays emotions such as love and tells a story in a subtle yet engaging way.
A small portion of this class will involve important stretching components to improve flexibility. Every dancer must have a solid dance base for this class and are encouraged to take jazz or ballet as well. Dancers will be placed at the teacher’s discretion.
