Do you want to make an outfit for a special occasion? Are you struggling with fitting? Then come & join us for one or more days on our Make Your Own course to sew your own projects. You will work at your own pace. Bring along your material & pattern & make it up with Michelle there to help you through the difficult bits.
It can be any garment/s you choose from tailoring to special occasion wear. Advice will be given on the correct interlinings & techniques to use. Michelle will do fittings on the course but she can only fit one person at once so some delays are inevitable. A maximum of six students will be allowed on to this course.
You will need to provide all the fabrics & haberdashery needed for the project you are working on. There are Sewing Machines & basic sewing equipment provided for you to use during the course.
Our workshops are run from our workroom above the English Couture Company shop in the beautiful village of Syston in Leicestershire. The room is light & airy & will take up to 8 students. We have Janome Memory craft 6600 machine for all our students to work on. This means you don’t have to bring your machine with you. There are also overlockers available if needed. We have a good supply of the basic sewing equipment for you to use on the course.
There is always tea, coffee & biscuits provided at any time during the day. You will have to provide your own lunch. There are shops near to the studio where you can buy lunch or Ann, our friendly sandwich maker will deliver freshly made food which you can order when you get here. You can bring a packed lunch as an alternative.
Michelle had the best dressed teddy in the area! She started her sewing life at the age of 6 years old when she used to see her Mum sewing & drove her mad by jumping on to the machine as soon as she went to do some pressing.
After completing her school education she went straight in to the tailoring industry working at a Bespoke Tailors in Leicester. Whilst she was there the company won the prestigious Golden Shears award.
Beating all the Saville Row tailors that year. Michelle has also won awards at the London College of Fashion for the apprentices version of the Golden shears award.
Patchwork & Quilting classes are offered by New Forest Fabrics for all skill level. We have 6 sewing machines for hire.  If you wish to reserve one, please confirm when booking.  The charge is £5 per class.  You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you prefer.
This is an opportunity to for absolute beginners and those who lack confidence with a sewing machine to learn basic skills. Basic skills that can be used in most sewing projects.
This beautiful sewing pattern has proved incredibly popular with the sewing community and we know you will love making and wearing your own version. We’re teaching this course in October, just as the weather will start to cool down, so you can style your new coat throughout Winter!
Wet felting creates a background of wool. Dry Felting is the craft of using barbed needles to matt wool into pictures and creative shapes. Embellishing with stitch, making felted vessels and beads can all be covered in this whole day of colour and creation.
The course consists of 5 units, each of which takes you through all the great functions step by step, building your knowledge of the software and guiding you through every stage, building your confidence to try new things.Â
