Did you know that tapping in to your creative energy can improve your overall health and well being? It is well recognised that creative engagement can decrease anxiety, stress, and other mental health issues.
MakerSpace & co thinks that we all could do with a bit of a well being boost. We've all been affected by what's been happening over the last two years; it's been tough.
This is why MakerSpace & co is introducing a series of free creative workshops, in partnership with Inner West Council, that focus on mindful making, artistic self expression and building social connections.
Think of it as a creative tonic to pick you up. Working with qualified art therapists, our Maker Therapy series is an opportunity for you to take a breath, practice some self care and get to meet other people in a safe and inclusive space.

Sensory Clay Play:
Explore the many benefits of working with clay - get out of the head and into the body as we explore different ways of working creatively with clay.
Dive into the satisfying sensory qualities of clay and experience how relaxing working with clay can be! This fun, social workshop will provide you with tools to break out of the box and explore the benefits of play when working creatively.
Using various art therapy techniques, we will explore the process of squishing, smashing, blending, sculpting and shaping. No art making skills required, come as you are to explore and unleash your creativity!

In this introductory class you will be shown a variety of different hand-building techniques. You will learn how to pinch, coil and join to create basic forms such as a bowl or mug. Once your piece is completed you will select a glaze color of your choice.
Would you like access to specialised equipment like a pottery wheel, slab roller and extruder without spending thousands of dollars? Clay Club is the perfect next step from a full-assistance workshop to independent practice.
This 6-week course is suitable for complete beginners and intermediates working on improving specific techniques. Throughout the term you will learn about preparing clay, throwing simple shapes on the wheel, how to trim and glaze them.
