This qualification is designed for learners aged 19 or over who want to increase their knowledge and awareness of mental health.

This qualification aims to:

  • Focus on the study of mental health and mental wellbeing

  • Offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge

 The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • Raise awareness of mental health and a range of mental health conditions

  • Increase the learners understanding of mental health and the causes of mental ill-health

Modules

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness, learners are required to successfully complete 10 mandatory units.

  • T/504/0482 Understanding mental health

  • M/504/0481 Understanding stress

  • Y/504/0488 Understanding anxiety

  • H/504/0493 Understanding phobias

  • M/504/0495 Understanding depression

  • T/504/0496 Understanding postnatal depression

  • L/504/0553 Understanding bipolar disorder

  • M/504/0562 Understanding schizophrenia

  • A/504/0564 Understanding dementia

  • R/504/0571 Understanding eating disorders

Qualifications Gained

  • Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness

Duration

  • 9am - 1pm each Friday for 16 weeks.

Progression

Learners who successfully achieve this qualification** would be in a position to progress to a Foundation Entry Degree course in Health and Social Care or a Foundation Entry Degree course in Mental Health and Wellbeing at the Hugh Baird University Centre. 

They may also be in a position to study: 

  • L3 Access to Higher Education (Health and Social Care or Nursing and Midwifery) at the Hugh Baird University Centre***

  • Level 2 and 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care

  • Level 3 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Awareness

  • Level 3 Award in Counselling Skills and Theory

  • Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills

Functional Skills (English and / or Maths may be required and would be discussed at interview)
Functional Skills or GCSE (English and / or Maths will be required and would be discussed at interview)

Career Path
