Learning objectives
By the end of the lectures the participants will:
Manage acute dental trauma with more confidence
Understand the importance of a-traumatic techniques
Improve their treatment planning for traumatised teeth.
Learning content
The workshop will illustrate the management of fracture and luxation injuries using real cases. The hands on element will be on splinting repositioned teeth.
Course Directors:
Beth Burns
Beth Burns is Consultant and Clinical Lead in Restorative Dentistry Glasgow Dental Hospital and School. She developed and runs the Adult Dental Trauma Service in Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Beth is also a board member of Dental Trauma UK.
She is committed to improving both the immediate and long term management of dental trauma, through education and improved access to appropriate specialist services.
She aims to improve knowledge and confidence in the management of dental trauma based on current international guidance with practical hints and tips from her own experience. She frequently lectures nationally and internationally, with multiple publications in the field of dental trauma.
Beth is actively involved in both the acute management of patients who have sustained traumatic dental injuries, and long term management of resulting complications, and rehabilitation required in her dedicated Trauma clinics and multi-disciplinary clinics along with Paediatric Dentistry.
These MDT clinics help to ensure smooth transition between Paediatric and Adult Restorative services following childhood trauma, ensuring appropriate intervention at the most suitable stage for patients. Beth is also a trainer for ASC (Ask, Support, Care), an initiative developed by the charity Medics Against Violence.
This has allowed Beth to train other professionals to more effectively spot signs of domestic abuse, ask the right questions and ensure those affected get the support they need
Serpil Djemal
Until recently, Serpil was a consultant in Restorative Dentistry at King’s College NHS Foundation Trust in SE London where she developed the adult dental trauma service and was actively involved in the acute and long-term management of patients who have sustained traumatic dental injuries.
She continues in her role as founder chairperson to Dental Trauma UK – a charity set up to raise public and professional awareness in the prevention and management of traumatic dental injuries.
Serpil has lectured and continues to lecture nationally and internationally and has published widely, written several book chapters on dental trauma as well as publishing her teams work in a book – Dental Trauma: a practical guide to diagnosis and management in 2021.
Welcome To IFEA 2024 In Glasgow
This biennial World Congress of the International Federation of Endodontic Associations (IFEA) will be organised in 2024 by The British Endodontic Society (BES) with Glasgow, Scotland, as the host city.
I am delighted to invite your organisation to the 14th World Endodontic Congress (WEC) which will take place at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC), Glasgow, UK from the 11th – 14th September 2024.
This biennial World Congress of the International Federation of Endodontic Associations (IFEA) will be organised in 2024 by The British Endodontic Society (BES) with Glasgow, Scotland, as the host city.
The Society is very excited to have the opportunity to host this prestigious Congress and aims to attract endodontists, other dental specialists, general dental practitioners and students from Europe and around the World. In delivering a contemporary programme we aim to leave a legacy of endodontic advancement going forwards.
Glasgow is a wonderful place to visit. It is a vibrant friendly city, packed with history and plenty to offer, both culturally and socially. The surrounding area is, of course, famous for its’ scenery, golf courses and whisky tours! It also has an international airport with connections across the UK and the world.
The Conference will take place over three days, Thursday to Saturday, with a day on Wednesday for pre-congress activities. We anticipate that over 3000 delegates will attend the conference.
The venue will be the Scottish Event Campus, a modern multi-purpose event centre, close to the city next to the River Clyde. The Exhibition Area for the Congress is located at ground floor level with the Meeting Rooms above. All Congress catering will be in the Exhibition Area.
The Society is also planning a busy social programme for attendees at the Congress, on the Wednesday evening will be a Drinks Reception at the Glasgow Science Centre, hosted by the City of Glasgow, on the Thursday evening will be a Dinner and traditional Scottish Dancing (Ceilidh) and on the Friday evening a Formal Dinner at the Kelvingrove Museum.
