We designed the course with successful event industry professionals and we invite guest lecturers who are active in global events management to share their best practice with you. You’ll develop a powerful grasp of how business operates in this sector.

From festivals and concerts, to conferences and corporate events, this course will give you the professional skills you need to succeed in international events management. 

Develop a broad range of event delivery strategies and a wealth of first-hand experience in planning, managing and evaluating events. Through live experiential activities and client-based consultancy projects, you’ll gain experience planning and managing a variety of real-life events.

Beyond academia and into the working world

  • Supported by our Placements Office, you’ll also be able to begin building an impressive CV through an optional 36-48 week internship. Spending this time in a real-world events environment will allow you to hone your skills within a fast-paced professional organisation.
  • Your engagement with employers will also allow you to create new opportunities that will not only benefit your learning, but pave the way for your professional future in this exciting industry.

Course information

  • We have designed this course alongside event industry practitioners to give you a practical and managerial approach to building your professional skills and to provide you with many opportunities to gain valuable experience in the events industry. Taught modules include live experiential activity and client-based consultancy projects, which give opportunities to network with industry. External visits and guest lectures give you the opportunity to develop a strong grasp of business and events culture.
  • Your studies will have an international focus to reflect the global nature of this industry. Our department has many well-established international collaborative partnerships, which will enrich your student experience. Our international research activities and projects will create new opportunities for research through your engagement with employers.

Rise with Manchester Met

  • Rise is a programme available to all students at Manchester Met giving you the opportunity to earn practice credits on your degree through employment-enhancing activities. During your studies you can collect points for the activities you engage in and if you engage in enough activity you could receive recognition on your degree transcript.
  • Postgraduate students can get involved in activities such as project work, research internships, workshops, volunteering and certifications. For example, you could gain certifications with the likes of Microsoft, Adobe and the Project Management Institute free of charge. Not only are these fantastic to have on your CV but they are also transferable to a wide range of careers.  
  • All Rise activities are organised according to themes of Digital Capabilities, Self-Effectiveness, Sustainability, Internationalisation, Enterprise and Civics. Completing a number of activities within a certain theme will also earn you micro-accreditations in the form of Digital Badges.

Year 1

  • You’ll study several core units, covering topics such as creative event design and production, global issues in events and event sponsorship and marketing. From there you’ll undertake an independent research project where you will look at event design, reporting and analysis. 
  • In addition to your core units, you’ll also study responsible events management as an option unit. Whilst studying the unit is compulsory, the credit-weighting of the unit can be substituted for credits gained on the Rise programme in your final transcript.

Placement options

  • If you choose to take the optional one year internship, you’ll do so once you have successfully completed your taught modules. The internship takes place over 36-48 weeks – you will be supported by our Placement Office, who have extensive contacts within the industry and over 25 years’ experience of helping students to find placements.
  • The Placement Office advertise a variety of opportunities, support and advise on the application and recruitment process and continue to support you whilst you are away from the University.

  • By the time you finish this course, you’ll have the practical skills, real-world experience and formal qualification to stand out in a competitive jobs market and succeed in this fast-paced industry.
  • There’s a wide range of career paths to explore around the world, from agencies in the private sector to in-house teams in the public sector, and plenty in between. You can follow in the footsteps of your fellow graduates, who have gone on to work with sports events and music festivals, or you could even establish your own events agency customers.
