Little Groove classes specialize in children from 3 months up to 4 years of age. We not only do musical activities in the classroom, we also have stacking cups, balls, trains, cars, pom poms, large Legos, bubbles, a parachute, colored scarves.
Our musical instruments for the children to use with their caregiver include drums, maracas, tambourines and we have recently added xylophones and rhythm sticks.
Every activity is done to live music!! We also have two teachers in every class. Children interact at their own level with the help of the teacher assistant and the caregiver. The teachers give learning tips to the caregivers to use in class and at home.

The most important thing I can stress as a music and early childhood curriculum writer is that children are really like sponges and everything we do as caregivers is teaching them. Being in a class like Little Groove is what I would call active learning.
Active learning includes doing more than a few things at once!! Watching TV is not active learning because children are not using their bodies to respond to the TV. In a music class they are in a multi- sensory learning environment.
That means they can hear and feel the vibrations of live music. Children are interacting with the teachers and caregiver in a loving supportive environment. They are shaking a maraca and learning concepts such as slow, fast, up, down, quiet, loud and learning to stop and go when the music starts. This multi- tasking is so important for early childhood development.
I could go on and on with what a child learns in the first three years of life. I will only mention one more amazing early childhood miracle and that is learning to communicate needs through body language and words.
We live in a challenging time as parents because of our fast paced society and also technology and how it is affecting the social skills of our children and how they learn. I am all for stepping back in time and having children in our classes be hands on and learning to resolve conflicts like sharing and transitioning. All of these are important skills that children learn in the early part of life.
Come check out a class and join us. I promise you, you and your child will have a blast and learn at the same time.
We have classes all over the city at multiple times and locations. So check out our Little Groove Registration page to see class locations and availability.
Start our course today and see for yourself that playing drums is an exciting activity! As you may know, it develops coordination skills, swift reaction and sensitive hearing. As a drummer you are constantly creating different chaotic sounds. But it is time to advance in skill.
Our 45 minute lessons are ideal for a wide range of students - from kids just wanting to give music a shot to working adults interested in learning guitar during a lunch break.
