Course Details

Graduates from the Naval Architecture Technology program have the skills and knowledge required to participate in the different stages of design, modification or repair of various types of floating, permanent or mobile structures (ships, sailboats, drilling platforms, etc), which requires an understanding of aspects related to structure, stability and dynamics as well as the mechanical and electrical systems of marine structures.

Naval architecture technologists must, among other things, be able to:

  • draw up structure and mechanical plans based on established specifications and standards, and ensure they are in conformity
  • evaluate the stability and dynamic behaviour of floating structures
  • develop mechanical and electrical service facilities based on the architectural constraints of floating structures
  • make a list of materials required for a given project
  • plan out the different stages of construction or repair and supervise the work to be done
  • verify the quality of the systems installed though testing and ensure they are in conformity
  • estimate costs and perform various work site follow-ups

Naval architecture technologists plan projects, draw up plans and can work as production controllers, testing and quality control technicians or production liaison officers.

They can also work towards becoming naval architect assistants or technical executives and be mandated with different levels of responsibility.
