The course provides a full appreciation in the techniques and method of penetrant inspection. This includes introduction to penetrant method, principle of penetrant testing, penetrant inspection equipment, performance check, defect detection and evaluation, penetrant techniques, relevant standard and hands-on practical.

The program offers intensive practical training together with strong theoretical foundation that enables personnel to achieve a solid understanding of Non-destructive testing program. Designed to create competent NDT personnel in methods of PT, MT, RI and UT in accordance with ISO 9712.

Penetrant testing (Pt)

  • Penetrant Testing (PT) is one of the non-destructive testing (NDT) methods used for the detection of surface breaking imperfections. The Penetrant Testing method is based on the capillary action of liquids. It employs various chemicals which must be used in accordance with a prescribed procedure. This method is known for its simplicity and relative effectiveness. It belongs to the group of conventional NDT methods.
  • During the course, the candidates will gain a comprehensive understanding of Penetrant Testing principles that will enable them to implement this method competently.

Course content

  • Introduction of terminology and history of NDT
  • Physical properties of the penetrant and associated knowledge
  • Typical defects according to the manufacturing process
  • Design and operation of penetrant installations and units
  • Verification that the test object is in suitable condition for penetrant testing
  • Preparation and performance of the test
  • Test report (preparation and check) and written procedure
  • Assessment of discontinuities
  • Environmental and safety conditions

Training Program

  • Magnetic Testing (MT) + Penentrant Testing (PT)
  • Magnetic Testing (MT) + Ultrasonic Testing Thickness Measurement (UTTM)

Pre-Requisites

  • Malaysian age between 17 to 35 years old

  • Preferable Diploma holder in Engineering / Technology
  • Pass the Pre-course Test and program admission interview
  • Physically fit and and pass color eye test

Magnetic testing (Mt)

  • Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) is one of the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods used for the detection of surface or subsurface imperfections. The Magnetic Particle Testing method is based on the ability of a material to be magnetized. Material discontinuities (if oriented suitably) may lead to magnetic flux leakage that forms an indication. This method is known for its speed, productivity, and relative accuracy. It belongs to the group of conventional NDT methods.
  • During the course candidates will gain a comprehensive understanding of Magnetic Particle Testing principles that will enable them to implement this method competently.

Ultrasonic testing thickness measurement (Uttm)

  • Ultrasonic Testing Thickness Measurement (UTTM) is one of the Non-Destructive Testing methods used for detection of defects (lamination or corrosion) inside materials or thickness check by the use of compression probe. The Ultrasonic Testing method uses acoustic waves which have the capability to propagate through a material and be reflected on its boundary. It employs ultrasonic test sets and various probes. This method is one of volumetric methods (can test full material volume). It belongs to the group of conventional NDT methods.
  • During the course the candidate will gain a comprehensive understanding of Ultrasonic Testing that will enable them to implement this method competently.

Course content

Ultrasonic testing (Ut)

  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) is one of the non-destructive testing (NDT) methods used for detection of defects inside materials or welds by the use of compression and shear probe.
This will be achieved through both theory lessons focused on aspects of practical application of UT and practical exercises on test specimens, with emphasis on interpretation of defect indications.
