The purpose of this fraud investigation qualification registered by SAQA (101868) is to prepare a learner to operate as a Fraud Examiner using specialised fraud examination techniques. A Fraud Examiner prevents, detects and deters fraud by:

  • identifying unusual trends and fraud indicators in organisations' processes and operations,
  • determining whether organisations have adequate internal controls
  • promoting an adequate control environment to mitigate fraud risk,
  • conducting investigations of civil or criminal fraud, white-collar crime; and
  • identifying fraud indicators.

A qualified learner will be able to:

  • Create and establish an anti-fraud culture.
  • Monitor and advise on legal elements related to affixing blame as a result of fraud investigations.
  • Investigate and report on fraud findings.
  • Identify fraud and advise on how to investigate fraud schemes in the occupational environment.

Learning takes place by combining self-study on a Online Learning Platform with facilitated support using WhatsApp, e-mail and ad-hoc online sessions using Zoom, where required. Learners will need access to a computer with a microphone, camera and stable internet connection.

The Occupational Certificate: Fraud Examiner, underpinning fraud investigation, requires a mandatory External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA). Learners will need to pass the EISA arranged by the Quality Council for Trades & Occupations (QCTO) before the QCTO verify the competency results. In order to qualify for the EISA, learners must provide proof of completion of all required standards by means of statements of results and work experience.
