Course Description

Operations management is one of the major functions of any organization and it is an exciting and vital field in today’s complex business world.

Operations management integrally relate to all other business functions, therefore, students in logistics and supply chain management diploma program must understand operations – an essential function in every business.

This course will introduce students to the five major decision areas in operations management: process, quality, capacity, inventory and supply chain. Along with this, students will understand the operation’s objectives related to both manufacturing and service organizations.

  • EXPLAIN product-process matrix and service-positioning matrix.
  • APPLY process analysis techniques.
  • DESCRIBE lean principles, seven forms of waste and lean tools.
  • PRACTICE lean tools through kaizen approach.
  • EXPLAIN qualitative and quantitative quality control tools.
  • APPLY seven quality control tools.
  • DESCRIBE capacity planning issues at strategic, tactical and operational levels.
  • APPLY aggregate planning strategies to determine workforce levels.
  • APPLY job sequencing rules, single machine scheduling and finite scheduling principles.
