Description
This 2-day workshop has been requested by some of the students that have done my Introduction to Embroidery workshops at MakerSpace, Marrickville.
The embroidery technique used for this work is called ‘Silk Shading’ or ‘Long-and-Short Stitch’. It is a technique that gives a more painterly and realistic appearance to embroidery.
This is not a workshop for an absolute beginner in Embroidery. Mary’s past students at MakerSpace will have the experience to do this workshop and anyone else with embroidery experience is very welcome.
Mary will provide you with a design on calico for you to work and a kit of threads and needles. The cost of the kit is included in the fee for the workshop.
What to bring:
a ring frame (also called a hoop frame) that is about 25cm in diameter – must be a wooden (or bamboo) frame, not a plastic frame (Mary recommends ‘Crewel Gobelin’ in Marion Street, Killara, ‘Stitch’ in Willoughby Rd, Willougby, HobbySew at Top Ryde Shopping Centre, or ‘Morris and Sons’ at 50 York St, Sydney)
a small, very sharp pair of scissors (Mary recommends www.scissorman.com.au – ring them and tell them what you are after and their service is quick)
A G-clamp that will allow you to attach your frame to the table – not a huge one – buy one that you can open up enough to accommodate the depth of your frame and the depth of a typical table.
Notepad and pen/pencil
