Course Details

We offer lessons to all ages, from childhood music education, to adult beginner private music lessons in Oshawa and Durham Region. Lessons are generally once per week and are offered year-round.

Students with no previous training will start with a beginner method that covers notation, rhythm, musical terminology and proper positions and/or breathing. All genres of music (classical, popular, etc.) are available according to the student's interest.

We encourage participation in recitals, competitions, workshops and other special events and prepare students for Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations, Conservatory Canada, music competitions and shows and university music audition preparation

We at Upscale Music Studios teach private lessons in most instruments and voice. We are committed to offering students a thorough, interactive and fun education in the Durham Region.

Students have bonded with those of similar interests while developing a drive to succeed musically and theoretically. Teachers are qualified musically and gifted in passing on their skills to students of all ages and levels.

We encourage and provide opportunity for students to take Royal Conservatory of Music Examinations (RCM) and to participate in competitions, shows, workshops, small group performances and recitals. Upscale Theatre Company for students, age 8-18, has completed several very successful stage productions.

Our facilities in Oshawa are ideal, with eight large studios and reception area. On site is a dance studio, day and after-school care, karate classes and many other activities as well as a beautiful large auditorium with stage and an accessible grand piano that is ideal for our recitals, shows and on-site examinations. Free parking is a plus!

Teacher's Experience
Carolynne Pagett, ARCT, RMT, has taught piano for over 45 years and teaches all theoretical subjects and pedagogy. Her passion for teaching has increased with experience and added depth of knowledge. Past and current experience also includes serving as church pianist, organist and choir director, vocal and instrumental accompaniment and early childhood music. She studied piano with Zelma Lymburner, Lynne Reid and Nan Perry and theory with Markwell Perry. Carolynne is the Royal Conservatory of Music Representative for Oshawa, Ontario and is a past President (twice) of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association, Oshawa and District Branch. She played the trombone in high school and took up the clarinet several years ago. She recently obtained first class honours on her grade 8 RCM voice examination (it's never too late to learn!) Her mandate is to encourage students to become active as soon as possible in all aspects of music performance and she often assists students in preparing for those tasks. Past students have performed on keyboard in jazz bands, accompanied school musicals and at ballet studios, won prizes in SASS (for writing and performing their own music), perform and accompany at various churches and teach music at the elementary and high school level.
