Plumbing Service Protocol is a 100-hour course covering every aspect of residential plumbing. Though it may take years to truly master the trade of plumbing, our course lays a complete foundation of the fundamentals that will give a newcomer to the trade all the advantages he needs to quickly build his skills up from a solid base. Each lesson covers the basics and also contains advanced information and experience that will benefit even a seasoned technician.
The Total Tech process of hearing theory, seeing demonstrations and then applying those lessons in the laboratory exercise builds competence and confidence into each technician we train in the shortest time possible. The culmination of hundreds of years of collective experience working in the field is distilled into this powerful 100-hour course.
Total Tech’s goal is to see people’s lives changed by the training we offer. Students will leave with a textbook, access to on-line resources, and a binder full of auxiliary handouts to help them continue to learn and grow. The majority of the class is spent with the students doing work themselves in the lab, which is where the process really comes together. People learn best by putting their hands on.
The most unique part of our process is, without a doubt, the one of a kind plumbing lab that includes 8 fully functional whole house training stations, dozens of water heaters, and hundreds of feet of underground piping, which makes this an unrivaled environment for a new technician to lay his hands on nearly any aspect of a system he might encounter in residential plumbing.
Total Tech was founded in 2006 by Don Miller. At the time he worked for Carrier Mid-South in Nashville as Customer Assurance Manager. His responsibilities included technical assistance, warranty arbitration, and technician training. While working with seasoned technicians, he quickly recognized that the HVAC industry was struggling to keep up with current technology and due to his passion for the trade, knew that he had to make a difference and change the way that technicians were trained.
Total Tech began in the Miller home garage teaching and training technicians looking to enhance their skills in the trade. One year later, Don, and his wife, Shawna, moved Total Tech into a 1,300 square foot building on Almaville Road in Smyrna. After busting at the seams, 2 years later the operation was moved into a 4,500 square foot facility on Weakley Lane in Smyrna.
Total Tech had the privilege of partnering with Hiller Plumbing Heating Cooling Electrical out of Nashville, TN in August of 2013. The partnership allowed the business to expand into other trades. Total Tech began offering their Plumbing Fundamentals and Electrical Fundamentals courses in early 2015. While Total Tech is partnered with Hiller PHCE, and they are both at the same location, Total Tech still operates as a separate entity and continues to accept outside students, which include the novice as well as the seasoned technician.
Effective technical training incorporates applied theory with proper procedures. Total Tech implements this blend of training into practical techniques that make system analysis make sense. It is this type of training that makes the technician capable of meeting today’s industry standards.
Total Tech offers the attendee a premier learning experience by creating a proper learning environment. The attendee registration, classroom instruction, reading assignments, and lab practices are all part of this environment.
Team members at Total Tech must have a heart for people....changing peoples lives is our ultimate goal. Our joy comes from developing successful students and watching them obtain gainful employment in whichever trade they decide to enter. Their success is our success.
With an aging infrastructure and dwindling trade workforce, the demand for more skilled plumbers has never been greater. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that plumbing jobs will increase at a faster-than-normal rate over the next ten years.
