Artnest is a home – based studio with limitless opportunities to help you to produce unique, hand made ceramics. I like a stress-free atmosphere so classes are informal, and kept very small. You will be taught how to work with clay using various hand-building techniques.
Artnest is a home – based studio with limitless opportunities to help you to produce unique, hand made ceramics. I like a stress-free atmosphere so classes are informal, and kept very small. You will be taught how to work with clay using various hand-building techniques.
You are free to choose what to make. I will provide technical help and guidance and suggest projects if needed. Artnest's library has a large selection of books that are great for inspiration.
Making ceramics is a long process. You need a minimum of three sessions to be able to create, a ready to use piece.
The typical process starts with design and hand building. The created form needs to be bone dry, before first firing to 1000 deg C. In the next phase, you decorate your piece using the technique of your choice. The final firing depends on your chosen decoration method.
There's nothing more rewarding than opening the kiln to see your newborn masterpiece. Clay, tools, glazes, firing are available at Artnest. Aprons are also available at the studio but it’s important to dress in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
I have always been fascinated by ceramics, but my true passion for art began with a job transfer to Singapore nineteen years ago. I was lucky enough to meet a number of great artists and teachers, who helped me weave my feelings into a creative process.
Inspired by the possibility of turning mud into art, I chose to study Ceramics at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art. I then gave up my professional career, and returned home to Sydney, to open my very own studio, Artnest.
The class gives you the chance to experience the thrill and fun of the wheel. You will be guided by our professional pottery teachers, where you'll get muddy, creative and have a bit fun. Come on your own or with a friend this is an open, friendly environment.
NDIS classes are held in Fiona's home studio. Classes are one on one and run for approximately 1.5 hours (negotiable). Morning / Afternoon tea supplied. Students work on a range of projects suited to their abilities and interests.
Clay is such a versatile material, you can create anything you want with it. If you want to get into pottery but desire something a little more creative and inspiring than plain pottery, then this is the class for you. Â
If you just want to have a try and are not ready for our short-term classes, then our taster classes are best for you! Within two hours you will learn the skills of basic wheel throwing and make two works on the wheels.
Our pottery classes are held weekly with this new term running for seven weeks (instead of our usual eight weeks due to potentially moving studios!!), covering all the skills required to bring a ball of clay to life on the potter's wheel
