Course Details

To offer students and practitioners of the potter’s wheel a two-day intensive throwing workshop, to help students build on their own skills and develop their own styles. The tutor will introduce some new techniques for the workshop while also working with students to assist them to improve and build upon their own skills and develop their throwing discipline.

 

Requirement Of Course:

  • It is expected that all students would have completed minimum of 1-2 classes on the wheel. A wheel, tools and clay are supplied, though if students have their own tools or wish to work in their favoured clay, this is encouraged.
  • There is not a firing component to this workshop, though options for firing will be offered on the day.

 

On The Day:

Workshop to commence with short demo from tutor and discussion of what students are looking for help with, then into it throwing and creating on the wheel until end of session. Between sessions pots will be set outside to dry ready for turning and final construction in the second session. Workshop to end with a debrief and options for firing.

The session will start with a safety briefing and chat about the process, followed by a quick demonstration of throwing a pot on the wheel. You will then get to jump on the wheel yourself and get stuck into centring clay, pulling the walls and shaping your very own ceramic pieces!
