QA Level 2 Basic Life Support
What’s It About?
Basic Life Support describes a set of basic life saving first aid techniques.
This Basic Life Support course will provide you with the essential knowledge and skills you need to recognise when someone has suffered cardiac arrest. You will learn how to respond to the emergency quickly, calmly and confidently.
The course also covers the safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and is delivered following the protocols set by the Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines.
What Will You Gain?
By attending this Basic Life Support training course, you will know how to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally. You will also know how to manage when they are not breathing normally.
On returning to the workplace, you will be able to safely and effectively use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Who Should Attend?
This Level 2 Basic Life Support course is perfect for anyone who wishes to undertake further training or develop their knowledge and skills in this area.
It is also recommended that existing qualified first aiders who have access to a defibrillator undertake this training.
Why’s It Important?
Approximately 270,000 people suffer from a heart attack each year in the UK. Approx 33% of victims will die before they reach hospital due to cardiac arrest. When someone suffers from cardiac arrest, their chance of survival falls by 14% every minute that passes without AED.
Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops pumping blood around the body. Unless someone begins CPR and administers AED quickly, the casualty may suffer permanent brain damage. Death may also occur within minutes of the onset of cardiac arrest. If you have the skills and confidence to use an AED, it will save lives.
