Understanding Mental Health at Work
Mental Health is just as important as physical health, yet whilst we know how to take care of our own physical health, many people do not know how to support friends, relatives or colleagues who are experiencing poor mental health.
By developing a greater understanding of mental health conditions and how best to support and guide someone to professional help, you can help reduce the stigma associated with mental health in the UK.
What's It About?
This one-day understanding mental health at work course aims to educate you on common mental health illnesses such as depression, stress and anxiety, eating disorders, self-harming and suicide.
What Will You Gain?
By attending this course, you will understand the roles and responsibilities of a qualified mental health first aider and the legal requirements for mental health in the workplace.
You will have a good understanding of the different types of mental health illnesses and be able to recognise the main signs and symptoms of each.
On returning to the workplace, you will have the skills and knowledge to recognise and support someone experiencing a mental health illness.
Who Should Attend?
This Understanding Mental Health course is suitable for anyone interested in mental health who would like to raise their awareness and be able to listen and signpost work colleagues to a professional body, such as the Mental Health Foundation, Mind or Anxiety UK, that can provide support.
If you want to become a Mental Health First Aider for your workplace, the course you need is the QA Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace.
Why’s It Important?
Did you know that almost 37% of all work-related ill-health cases are linked to depression, anxiety or stress, and perhaps even more striking is that 95% of staff say their organisation is unhelpful when managing mental health.
The mental health industry has been stigmatised for many years, but it’s time to change that. Businesses are taking steps to raise awareness and providing training on how they can help their employees face these illnesses with proactive measures!
