Wood Thumb is the vision of two brothers who set out to build a creative community in San Francisco that embodies craftsmanship and sustainability. We started the woodshop in 2011 making small batches of wood products and selling them to thousands of stores around the country - most notably the wood tie! Now we help thousands of students and hundreds of teams get inspired in the woodshop through woodworking classes and team offsites.
In this course we'll cover the basics of traditional joinery including hand-cut as well as machine cut dovetails, mortise and tenons, miters, rabbets, and dados.
This class is designed to be the core introductory class that covers good studio practices while learning how to safely use all of the equipment and tools in the main woodworking studio. It will also be the primary prerequisite class for most of the more advanced woodworking classes.
This is the second in our classes for new and intermediate woodworkers. In this class you will have exposure to wood shop safety and the proper use of hand and stationary power tools.
This course will provide an introduction to woodcut printmaking. Fundamental relief techniques will introduce you to the tools and methods needed to allow you to carve and print from your own relief woodblocks.
In this class you will learn the basics of woodworking. You’ll learn how to cut, sand, glue up, and finish. You’ll also be able to take the project home that you begin.
