According to the recent polls, a growing percentage of Americans ages 15 to 44 suffer from severe acne, with over 34% in men and 27% in women. Contrary to what we are lead to believe, acne is not just a concern for adolescents, and the market reflects that.
With the acne market over eight times greater than the entirety of cosmetic laser treatments, and dermatologists in ever-increasing demand, it is imperative for primary care physicians to act now and sign up for this program.
What is Acne?
Acne is a common rash occurring in 85% of young people aged between 12 and 24, but occasionally persists in to adult life. It pops up in areas of skin that have lots of sebaceous glands (little glands that secrete sebum, which is the stuff that makes your skin feel oily).
There are lots of sebaceous glands on your face, back and chest, so in these parts of the body acne is more common. Pimples are essentially red and inflamed bumps that can be painful and filled with pus. Many pimples clustered together in a region is considered acne.
What cause acne?
The sebaceous glands mentioned above are “switched on” by testosterone, which is a sex hormone present in guys and girls. To cut a long story short Exo Propionibacterium Acnes to grow and cause inflammation, which we see as the red pustules that appear on our face, back and chest. The inflammation acne become so bad that some acne suffers are left with permanent scars long after the acne episode has passed.
Are you considering becoming an acne expert?
Be ready to have long standing relationship with clients that requires close communication and guidance with managing Acne Skin Condition. In most cases acne is an inherited condition of the pores that needs a systematic approach.
The logical first step is to see a dermatologist for treating a significant acne condition. Unfortunately, most dermatologist resort to long-term antibiotic use. When the antibiotics are failing, they usually prescribe retinoid creams and then Accutane (isotretinoin). Fortunately, estheticians can be highly successful treating even the most difficult acne cases, clearing them in 3-4 months.
The key is combating the skin’s ability to adapt to products. None of the topical products will get and clean the skin unless it is periodically adjusted during first serval weeks. The skin adapts to the products and stops responding. It is very important to adjust client’s home care every two weeks – not with new product, but with increasing the potency and frequency. Using the right product is only half the battle; the other half is using them correctly.
You should educate clients about lifestyle factors that can add to their acne. Clients cannot skip their home-care routine and still get good results. You must see clients every two weeks during the course of Science of Acne. At that time, you will be able to learn and practice advanced – techniques and protocols how properly to heal and clear acne.
