The objective of the course is to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the Hong Kong Convention in the context of the Ship Scrapping Industry, particularly focusing on India's significant role in ship recycling. With India being a major destination for ship recycling, it is crucial for stakeholders to be well-versed in the international regulations governing this industry.

The Hong Kong Convention, creation and maintenance of an Inventory of Hazardous Materials for ships over 500 gross tonnage (GT). This inventory is instrumental in identifying the quantity and location of hazardous materials on board a ship, ensuring safe handling and disposal practices.

Furthermore, the Convention stipulates that ships can only be recycled at facilities authorized by the competent authority. This requirement underscores the importance of adhering to strict environmental and safety standards throughout the recycling process.
