Spanish

Spanish is the second most-spoken first language in the world, spoken widely throughout the Americas as well as in Spain, of course, and other parts of the world. As such it is an important language for global business, politics, and culture. At Trent you may take introductory and intermediate courses in Spanish which will allow you to communicate with Spanish speakers across the globe.

All introductory courses are open to students with no prior knowledge of the language. For complete details, see the Course Listing.

• SPAN 1001H and 1002H (1000Y) are introductory courses designed for complete beginners or, in the case of 1002H, those with some basic knowledge of Spanish. Oral and written skills are stressed in these courses, and you will also be introduced to aspects of Spanish and Latin American culture.
• SPAN 2001H and 2002H are intermediate courses designed for those who have completed the first-year course(s) or who have taken Spanish in secondary school or elsewhere. A quick consultation with one of our Spanish instructors will determine your level.
• SPAN 3001H is a more advanced course for those who have completed the second-year course(s) or who are deemed by the instructor to be at this level.

Students who have taken Spanish are encouraged to pursue one of the many Study Abroad opportunities offered by Trent in Spanish-speaking countries. Spanish is a perfect complement to any degree, but it is particularly popular among students of Anthropology, International Development Studies, History, Politics, and Nursing.
