This course for students with no knowledge of Spanish uses a communicative approach, emphasizing oral comprehension and expression without omitting the written aspects of Spanish. Students learn basics of grammar. Historical, social and cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world are introduced through the study of short readings. Not open to students who have completed Gr. 12 or OAC Spanish.

All students must take an interview/placement assessment before enrolling in this course. New students who do not have a Toronto Metropolitan Student Number should Create a Student Profile and obtain a student number before completing the assessment.
Supplies and materials to be purchased by the student: Additional supplies and materials are required (cost TBA). On-campus exam requirement: Beginning Fall 2022, your final exam will be written in person at the Toronto Metropolitan University campus.
If you live more than 100 km from the TMU campus, you may arrange to write your exam off campus using an approved off-campus invigilation service. Details on how to arrange off-campus invigilation will be provided prior to the first day of class. Details on the date of your exam can be found in your course outline and/or on the Exams for Online Courses webpage.

The Spanish Club of Winnipeg provides Spanish lessons from children’s class, adult beginners/level I class and a more advanced class.
Spanish 111 is an introductory course designed for students with limited or no previous knowledge of Spanish.
Our regular program is based on the four components of Conversa’s communicative approach to language training. Conversation is practiced at each class. Participants practice what is required to say in day-to-day situations and hold conversations with each other.
