Tap has evolved as an American dance form, popularised throughout the world, with debate about its origins coming from African & Irish dance.

The dancer uses their feet to strike the floor, beating out different rhythms, with dancers wearing tap shoes which have small metal plates on the toe and heel to give the distinctive sound. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on stage in musicals.

The ever evolving ISTD Tap syllabus has prepared many a dancer for life on the stage/professional careers.

Monique began her dancing career under the tuition of Gwenda Britten in Palmerston North at the age of 8. She trained in both the I.S.T.D. and R.A.D. Ballet Syllabi, and also studied ISTD Modern & Tap. In 2000 she was chosen for the Junior Associate programme at the N.Z. School of Dance as well as the Accelerated Scholars Programme both held in Wellington. In 2003 Monique auditioned successfully for a placement at one of the world’s most renowned ballet schools and took up her training at Elmhurst Ballet School in the U.K, working with may renowned international tutors, gaining her Trinity College London Diploma in Professional Dance.In 2006, Monique has danced with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, Zurich Junior Company & The National Ballet of Ireland.
